Ingredients
- ½ cup (115 g) butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3⁄4 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup chocolate chips or 100–150 g dark chocolate, roughly chopped (or milk chocolate, whatever you prefer) – optional
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Grease or line an 8-inch (20 cm) square baking pan with baking paper.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until smooth and glossy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate. Fold everything together gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Fold in the chopped chocolate, making sure it’s evenly distributed throughout the batter. For extra gooey brownies.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. The center should still look slightly soft.
- Sprinkle the remaining half of the chocolate over the brownies as soon as they come out of the oven.
- Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
Notes
Tips for the Best Fudgy Brownies
- Don’t overbake them. Brownies continue cooking as they cool, and taking them out slightly early keeps the center wonderfully fudgy.
- Chop your chocolate into both small and larger pieces for the best texture.
- Add a handful of chopped walnuts, pecans, or hazelnuts if you’d like a little crunch.
- Warm a brownie for a few seconds in the microwave before serving for extra gooey chocolate.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream, fresh berries, or a drizzle of warm chocolate sauce for an indulgent dessert.
